We provide the following senior social and independence support programs:

Seniors Programs

Seniors Social and Independence Support programs are designed to reduce isolation and provide seniors with opportunities for socialization and recreation, enhancing well being and reducing health risks. Mutually supportive relationships between seniors and other community members are nurtured and enhanced.

Older Adults Sharing Ideas Together: A group of creative older adults have been gathering to share ideas for upcoming projects and initiatives. Working together to explore how older adults can support their community and have meaningful opportunities to engage, learn and contribute, this group is applying for funds through the New Horizons for Seniors, Community-Based Projects funding stream. Our hope is to establish an Older Adults Advisory Group as a guiding force for activities and events focusing primarily around 3 community-identified areas: the arts, cultural & intergenerational exchange, and health & wellness. Keep an eye out for more updates coming soon... To find out more please contact Jennifer Beavington, community programs@alexhouse.net, 604-535-0015 ext 236

Community Lunch: The Semiahmoo Peninsula has a large seniors population, many of them with mobility problems or health issues. Through lack of income, lack of transportation or diminished mental capacity, many do not eat properly. We address these issues by providing a nutritious meal each Wednesday September through May, with transportation if needed, and allowing plenty of time for socialization. Lunch is followed by entertainment or speakers on topics of interest to seniors,  all provided by volunteers.  At least 7 volunteers assist every week with a variety of tasks, from food preparation to driving.

Seniors Out-trips: Seniors are taken on a day trip to a variety of locations around the lower mainland. Volunteers assist with driving, guiding and trouble-shooting.

Seniors Christmas Dinner: Each Christmas, seniors attend a festive Christmas dinner for a nominal fee. Volunteers cook, serve, provide rides and bake traditional Christmas foods for the seniors to take home.  Local businesses donate food or gifts for the event. Volunteers also provide traditional entertainment.

Drop in Lounge: Volunteers run a drop in for coffee, snacks and conversation every Wednesday morning, 9:30-11am, September to May.
